Detroit Review: NYE (Derrick May & Kevin Saunderson), Future Visions, Strikingly Affect (feat by Human Robot), X-RAY exclusivo com DJ Roach e Tec-Troit
E após um pequeno recesso, estamos de volta, sim a cidade de Detroit definitivamente respira o estado mental Techno e sempre nos surpreende em situações realmente históricas e inesquecíveis.
Foi assim que começamos este ano de 2024 no NYE que aconteceu em Downtown em um evento do Latona Expension Group de curadoria de minha mentora Juliette Latona, para este momento especial tivemos a presença de ambos pioneiros maestros Derrick May e Kevin Saunderson.
Pude presenciar esse momento importante que marca o retorno de Derrick May aos decks em uma ocasião mais que inusitada com seu amigo de infância Kevin Saunderson.
Ambos mostrando por que são os dois alguns dos principais nomes de maior importância na criação do Techno de Detroit e sua expansão internacional, os setes fortes e marcantes que expressam bem a identidade de cada um deles, confira um pouco nos momentos que registramos, em breve traremos mais novidades com Derrick May, fiquem ligados…

Future Visions – Detscientists , Andy Garcia (Cryovac Records), DJ Psycho @Spkrbox – Detroit
E a primeira festa do Future Visions deste ano de 2024 no Spkrbox Detroit, também trouxe dois DJs e Produtores legendários e de grande importância atuantes na cena de Detroit, Andy Garcia, que é o mentor por trás do Label Cryovac Records e o gigante DJ Psycho.
A festa celebrou também o novo release em vinyl do Detroit Hero Gary Martin, chamado de DeTR8 Luv e traz ainda um remix exclusivo do projeto Detscientists, que agora também fazem parte da Detroit Electronic Arts Agency | by Sarah Rogers, confira alguns momentos exclusivos.

Strikingly Affect (feat. by Human Robot)
O Strikingly Affect é um projeto original de Banda Audiovisual de São Paulo/Brasil composto por dois integrantes: Gab Bassani chefe do projeto( vocalista, performer, produtor, vegano e ativista ambiental) que une forças com Mao Ambrosio, guitarrista experimental, backing vocal (mestre em artes digitais – motion designer / diretor de animação, também ativista defensor de causas humanitárias).
A mente revolucionária e a voz explosiva de Gab, juntamente com as notas distorcidas de Mao, criam uma experiência sensorial única, juntos o Strikingly Machine e Jeferson Ciarvi (Human Robot) DJ e Produtor brasileiro da 3º Onda do Techno Underground de São Paulo (Brasil) e que atualmente vive em Detroit atuando com seus projetos pessoais e representando também internacionalmente a Revista DJ Sound, criaram a música “Hybrid Conscious Machine” que foi lançada em 02/02/2024.
Amigos de longa data e frequentadores assíduos de festas da cidade, logo após o primeiro lançamento da dupla que aconteceu durante a pandemia do COVID-19, o então single “Drink My Honey”, Jeferson teve uma idéia de trazer a banda também para um conceito mais eletrônico e sugeriu fazer um trabalho em collab para que o Strikingly Affect também pudesse transitar em vias eletrônicas, foi aí então que saiu a incrível “Hybrid Conscious Machine” com um background eletrônico direcionado ao dance-floor, guitarras, efeitos e Edição de Mao Ambrosio e a voz expressiva de Gab Bassani.
Este single também teve a masterização feita pelo grande Vantônio e é um trabalho independente da dupla Strikingly Affect.

X-RAY (exclusive interview) : DJ ROACH [ Nuestro Futuro Records & Tec-Troit]
DJ Roach é um DJ totalmente focado na cultura do vinil e possui habilidades incomparáveis, seu estilo é o techno e electro de Detroit e ele é uma das figuras mais importantes da cena eletrônica da cidade do Techno, além de ser um talentoso DJ e Produtor, é também fundador e responsável por um dos festivais mais importantes do calendário da cidade, o Tec-troit.
“DJ Roach is a DJ totally focused on vinyl culture and has unparalleled skills, his style is Detroit techno and electro and he is one of the most important figures in the electronic scene in the city of Techno, as well as being a talented DJ and Producer he is also the founder and responsible for one of the most important festivals on the city’s calendar, Tec-troit.”
Nascido no sudoeste de Detroit na década de 70, Roach iniciou sua carreira no final dos anos 80, tocando com seu irmão em eventos locais de seu bairro, se inspirou em grandes lendas do Techno e principalmente em Jeff Mills, que na época também era conhecido como The Wizard e fez um famoso programa de rádio musical em Detroit.
Desde então, foi lá que Roach (Raul Rocha) soube qual direção musical deveria seguir.
“Born in southwest Detroit in the 70s, Roach began his career in the late 80s, playing with his brother at local events in his neighborhood, he was inspired by great Techno legends and mainly by Jeff Mills, who at the time was also known as The Wizard and was does a famous music radio show in Detroit. Since then, it was there that Roach (Raul Rocha) knew what musical direction he should follow.”
Em abril de 2013, Roach criou sua própria gravadora totalmente em vinil: Nuestro Futuro Records.
O primeiro EP de Roach foi lançado em novembro de 2013 e ele também tem lançamentos pelas gravadoras Soiree Records International, Cryovac Records, entre outras.
“In April 2013, Roach created his own all-vinyl record label: Nuestro Futuro Records. Roach’s first EP was released in November 2013 and he also has releases on the labels Soiree Records International, Cryovac Records, among others.”
Roach sem dúvida se tornou fundamental e essencial na cidade do Techno como fundador do Festival de Música Eletrônica Tec-Troit, como já publicamos sobre isso em alguns artigos aqui no DJ Sound (Links em Fontes), o Tec-troit é um Festival totalmente gratuito e que conta principalmente com talentos locais, realizado sempre no centro de Detroit e que terá nova casa em 2024.
“Roach undoubtedly became fundamental and essential in the city of Techno as the founder of the Tec-Troit Electronic Music Festival, as we have already published about it in some articles here at DJ Sound (Links in Sources), Tec-troit is a Festival totally free and which features mainly local talent, always held in the center of Detroit and which will have a new home in 2024.”

Olá Raul, que bom que você está conosco aqui no DJ Sound, seja bem-vindo, é uma honra para nós poder abrir este espaço para DJ’s Produtores lendários que representam genuinamente a cena underground de Detroit.
“Hello Raul, it’s great that you’re with us here at DJ Sound, welcome, it’s an honor for us to be able to open this space for legendary DJ’s Producers who genuinely represent Detroit’s underground scene.”
Bom, nossa primeira pergunta é… Como você se sente olhando para o início de sua carreira e sua evolução em suas conquistas até hoje e o que significa essa responsabilidade de ter em mãos um dos festivais mais importantes da cidade, o The Tec-troit, como é esse desafio?
“Well, our first question is… How do you feel looking back at the beginning of your career and your evolution in your achievements until today and what does this responsibility of having in your hands one of the most important festivals in the city, The Tec-troit, how is this challenge?”
[DJ ROACH]:
Olhando para trás, sou verdadeiramente abençoado e orgulhoso de todos. Eu realizei tudo isso ao longo dos anos. Quando comecei em 1988, nunca pensei que teria uma gravadora, produziria música, seria DJ ao redor do mundo, começaria um Festival de Techno gratuito para todas as idades e trabalharia com tantos artistas talentosos de Detroit. Este festival se tornou o festival mais importante na cena Techno de Detroit, à medida que continuamos a promover a Detroit Techno Music, os artistas de Detroit e o Detroit Vinyl. Fazemos isso desde que começamos em 2011. Caramba, nossa primeira camiseta dizia Tec-Troit ‘Home of Techno’. Então eu levo esse evento muito a sério porque sei como ele impactou a cena.
“Looking back, I am truly blessed and proud of all. I have accomplished over the years. When I started in 1988 I never thought I would own a record label, produce music, DJ around the world, start a free all ages, Techno Festival, and work with so many talented Detroit artists.
2ª e 3ª parte da sua 1ª pergunta haha. É muito desafiador realizar um festival gratuito para todas as idades. Um dos maiores desafios é lidar com as autoridades municipais e com o financiamento, mas de alguma forma fazemos com que isso aconteça todos os anos, independentemente de quem ou o que esteja no nosso caminho. Eu não conseguiria sem minha equipe, é isso que mantém o festival , não tenho palavras para agradecer a vocês o suficiente, vocês sabem quem são.
“Looking back, I am truly blessed and proud of all. I have accomplished over the years. When I started in 1988 I never thought I would own a record label, produce music, Dj around the world, start a free all ages, Techno Festival, and work with so many talented Detroit artists.
1a. This festival has become the most important festival in the Detroit Techno scene as we continue to push Detroit Techno Music, Detroit artists and Detroit Vinyl. We’ve been doing that since we started in 2011. Hell, our first T-shirt said Tec-Troit ‘Home of Techno’. So I take this event very seriously because I know how this event has had an impact on the scene.
2a. and to the 3rd part of your 1st question lol. It is very challenging to put on a free all ages festival. One of the biggest challenges is dealing with city officials and funding but somehow we make it happen every year regardless of who or what stands in our way. I couldn’t do it without my team that’s what keeps his festival going, I can’t thank you guys enough, you know who you are.”
[DJ SOUND]:
Pelo que podemos perceber, o Festival foi criado em 2011, correto? E você criou sua própria gravadora Nuestro Futuro Records em 2013, podemos dizer que uma coisa foi consequência da outra, ou seja, a gravadora veio para consolidar seu crescimento e sua importância na cena eletrônica de Detroit estabelecida desde o início do séc. Festa? Como você sentiu essa necessidade de expansão para criar sua gravadora e qual a ligação dela com o Festival Tec-troit e vice-versa, já que no primeiro EP da sua discografia tem uma música chamada Tec-troit?
“From what we can see, the Festival was created in 2011, correct? And you created your own record label Nuestro Futuro Records in 2013, we can say that one thing was a consequence of the other, that is, the label came to consolidate your growth and your importance in the Detroit electronic scene established from the beginning of the Festival ? How did you feel this need to expand to create your record label and what is its connection with the Tec-troit Festival and vice versa, since in the first EP of your discography there is a song called Tec-troit?”
[DJ ROACH]:
Sim, a Tec-Troit foi fundada em 2011, sim, minha gravadora começou em 2013. Não pensei assim, foi mais o Mad Mike Banks me dizendo para lançar minha própria gravadora e com a ajuda dele eu fiz.
”Yes, Tec-Troit was established in 2011 , Yes, my label started in 2013. I didn’t think about it like that, it was more of Mad Mike Banks telling me to launch my own label and with his help I did.”
Na verdade não existe uma conexão entre os dois, o festival e a faixa, eu só precisava de um nome para essa faixa naquele momento.
“There really isn’t a connection between the two, the festival and the track, I just needed a name for that track at that time”.
[DJ SOUND]:
Observamos uma evolução muito interessante do primeiro EP NFR-001 para NFR002 e seguindo em frente, isso foi constante e esse som se tornou incrível, consequentemente visto também no clássico “El Techno de Detroit” que tem os vocais de Irving Vazquez e é um dos meus discos favoritos e além claro, do aclamado ep “THAT DETROIT SOUND” (NFR006) que traz a faixa “Future Funk” tocada por importantes DJs de Detroit e do mundo, isso prova que vocês realmente fizeram um lindo trabalho durante todo esse período , você pode nos contar sobre esse aumento em termos técnicos em relação ao equipamento ou software DAW que você utilizou?
“We observed a very interesting evolution from the first EP NFR-001 to NFR002 and moving forward this was constant and this sound became incredible, consequently also seen in the classic “El Techno de Detroit” which has the vocals of Irving Vazquez and is one of my records favorites and besides of course, the acclaimed ep “THAT DETROIT SOUND” (NFR006) which features the track “Future Funk” played by important DJs from Detroit and around the world, this proves that you really did beautiful work during this entire period, you can Tell us about this rise in technical terms in relation to the DAW equipment or software you used?”
[DJ ROACH]:
Obrigado pelos elogios à minha música. Eu uso software e analógico na minha produção musical, não conheço todos os termos técnicos, só entro no estúdio, apago as luzes e crio algo que gosto.
“Thank you for the compliments on my music. I use both software and analog in my music production, I don’t know all the technical terms I just get in the studio, shut the lights off and create something I like.”
[DJ SOUND]:
Como está sua carreira de DJ agora? Você tem uma presença muito forte no México e que outros lugares você visitou que foram inesquecíveis para você em termos de resposta do público ao seu som e habilidades como DJ de vinyl? Como DJ que toca exclusivamente vinyl, como você vê a importância disso em termos de ser um bom DJ ou não para quem nunca teve ou nunca colocou a mão em um disco de vinyl hoje em dia… é uma experiência que em sua opinião diferencia os DJs entre si quando o assunto é “ser ou não ser”?
“How is your DJ career now? You have a very strong presence in Mexico and what other places have you visited that were unforgettable for you in terms of the public response to your sound and skills as a vinyl DJ? As a DJ who plays exclusively vinyl, how do you see the importance of this in terms of being a good DJ or not for those who have never had or never put their hands on a vinyl record nowadays… it’s an experience that in Your opinion differentiates DJs from each other when it comes to “to be or not to be”?”
[DJ ROACH]:
A carreira de DJ é ótima e ainda fico animado com cada show. Sim, eu amo a Cidade do México! Devo dizer, porém, que Filadélfia, Pensilvânia, neste local chamado 52HZ, foi o máximo para mim. Eu substituí o DJ Skurge-UR. Acredito que ele quebrou o pé ou algo parecido, aquela galera vibrou o set todo, nunca vou esquecer daquela noite. Grito aqui para Rudy K.
“DJ career is great I still get excited for every gig. Yes, I love Mexico City! I have to say though, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at this spot called 52HZ was tops for me. I filled in for DJ Skurge-UR. I believe he broke his foot or something like that, that crowd vibed the whole set, I’ll never forget that night. Shout out to Rudy K.”
Eu cresci em uma época em que era assim que você encontrava a música, indo às lojas de discos, cavando, tocando, sentindo e sentindo o cheiro do vinyl. Você não consegue isso em um arquivo com 100 faixas. Eu adoro a nova tecnologia. Só me sinto mais confortável com o vinyl, sei usar no spin digital, só que prefiro o vinyl no final das contas, habilidade é habilidade, as pessoas têm para vinyl e para digital.
“I grew up in a time where that’s how you found music, going to the record stores, digging, touching, feeling, and the smell of vinyl. You can’t get that on a file with 100 tracks on it. I love the new technology. I am just more comfortable with vinyl I know how to use in spin digital , I just prefer vinyl at the end of the day, skill is skill, people have it for vinyl and for digital.”

Bom, vamos falar um pouco sobre o Festival Tec-troit, o nosso projeto Detscientists formado por mim (Human Robot | Jeferson Ciarvi) e Gary Martin (Teknotika), tivemos a honra de participar da edição de 2023, a última realizada no local que sediou festival durante anos e onde se consolidou no calendário de eventos da cidade de Detroit, mas agora pelo que sabemos ele estará em uma nova casa, certo?
Quais as datas em que acontecerá neste ano e se você pode nos contar um pouco ou quem sabe também revelar as atrações especiais que teremos em 2024 além de quais foram os principais pontos que te incentivaram a fazer essa mudança? Por entendermos que isso representa claramente um avanço em direção a melhorias no próprio Festival, principalmente em termos de estrutura e conforto para o bem-estar do público e na qualidade das atrações que irão se apresentar nos palcos durante os dois dias de festival, e é claro de melhorias que também podem contribuir ainda mais para atrair novos parceiros, colaboradores e expositores e/ou fornecedores para fazerem parte do Festival, conte-nos mais sobre isso por favor.
“Well, let’s talk a little about the Tec-troit Festival, as Detscientists I (Human Robot | Jeferson Ciarvi) and Gary Martin (Teknotika), we had the honor of participating in the 2023 edition, the last one held in the place that hosted the festival during years and where he established himself in the City of Detroit’s calendar of events, but now from what we know, he will be in a new home, right?
What are the dates on which it will take place and can you please tell us a little or perhaps also reveal the special attractions we will have in 2024 and what were the main points that encouraged you to make this change?
